Off to College… See You September 7th

A brisk breeze gust through the deserted park. At this time of day for the past few months, the playground has always been bustling with little children and their families. But today was different. The sun had decided to hide behind the clouds and the day had traces of autumn in the air. A chilly wind was keeping everyone indoors and reaching for their sweaters.

I hate days like these where summer takes a step back to reintroduce the world to fall again. It makes me realize that summer is coming to an end and before long, autumn will envelop our little towns in vibrant leaves and crisp air. Of course, summer hasn’t said goodbye yet but it still makes me sad that fall is just around the corner. In the mean time, I will soak up as much sun as I can and cherish the moments of summer that is left.

Anyway, this is my last post until September 7.

I’m leaving for college on Saturday and I want to get adjusted to the new college life without trying to keep up with a blog. I can honestly say that I will miss chatting with you all for the next couple of weeks.

In the mean time, feel free to follow me on Instagram @oliviamonopoli to keep up with the latest. (Let me know if you did so I can do the same!)

Other than that, I’ll see you in September with some fun posts ahead!

Love, Olivia

Loving Him Was Red

I don’t know why but I think I¬†dresssed like Taylor Swift in these pictures. Like an Asian Taylor or something. The red stripes and red lipstick makes me want to jam out to her song Red (which, I am actually doing). People hate on Taylor but I have no idea why. All of her albums are on my iPod, even the ones during her youngling country phase. As a country song despiser, I think that’s saying a lot. And literally every time I see a picture of her, I get insanely jealous. Not just because of the fact that she is insanely tall and she should donate some inches to the needy (me). But because she has this most perfectest perfect style. Like whoever her stylist is, please adopt me also! ūüėõ

Owls and Tulle

To be quite honest, there isn’t must to say about this outfit except I kind of threw it on after I got back from my second to last day with the babies. And pictures were taken crazy fast (no good head shot ūüė¶ ) because my mother needed to use the car afterwards. Also the fact that right as I was about to get ready, I found out my roommate for college!! Yay! Unfortunately, she isn’t on my college’s facebook group so I’m tempted to start messaging every girl with her name going “Hi, you don’t happen to go to my college because if so, I’m your roommate! (PS-I’m really awkward)”. Now that I’ve gotten my roomie and residence hall, leaving for school is really hitting me. So crazy. Ahhh!

Anyway, have a great weekend and be sure to comment on this week’s topic before Friday! Always love to hear what you have to say.

A Mistaken Child’s Dress

As shown in some previous posts, I like to make my own clothes. For a graduation present, I asked for a dress form to help me make my own patterns. Anyway, this is my latest dress which I even lined (and was a huge pain¬†in my butt!). When I finished it, I took¬†a picture of it on my clothes hanger and sent it to some friends in a group message.¬†Super awkward because¬†they mistook it for a little girl’s dress. I guess when not on, it kind of does look like a dress made for little toddlers. The really short hem line and low back was my compensation for it actually being a dress for me, and not someone fifteen years younger. Who knows, maybe I’m blind to the fact I designed it really frilly and baby-like. But I LIKE it and I made it and I’m proud of my creation. And I guess that’s the only thing that matters, right?

Love, Olivia

PS-Crazy busy week ahead…I’m helping watch two twin baby girls this week along with my usual job at the baseball stadium. I’ll be sure to comment by the end of the week (If I’m not dead by then:P)

Makeup With Margarita: Matte Lips for Spring

Hello, Everyone!

I would like to introduce you to one of my best friends, Margarita (my LDBFF). Here is a little background on our friendship… When I was 7 years old, my family moved to the scary Midwest. My family had moved around¬†before but this time was the one where I was old enough to understand what was going on. It was¬†a little¬†hard for me to move away from my¬†home and friends.¬†So when I walked into my first day at FRA, it was nice to meet this girl, Margarita! We became besties in school and I have so many memories with her… Looking for “booby traps” in the shrubs, playing with our American Girl dolls, and obsessing about our cootie crushes. Unfortunately, two year later, my family moved back to our previous home. But, through Facebook, Skype, and the occasional snail mail, we became even better friends! Now, even though I haven’t seen her in years, she is one of my best friend in the whole entire world. I know in the years to come, she will always be there-no matter the distance. ūüôā

Anyway, she’s here to write a guest tutorial on makeup. For years,¬†I¬†have always drooled over her makeup looks and have gone to her for her great advice! So, I hope you enjoy her lovely makeup wisdom!

1) Start with a completely bare face (shudders)! Be sure to moisturize both your skin and lips. Super soft and smooth lips are crucial for this look.

2) Perform your everyday foundation routine. I usually like to just conceal my blemishes and highlight under the eyes. One awesome trick I’ve learned is to apply a highlighting concealer in this triangle shape under your eyes. This helps to diminish under eye bags and puffiness, conceal dark circles, and draw more attention to your eyes! When you’re finished, powder your face in the areas that you typically get oily, but try to avoid the direct under eye area. This will help keep that area looking fresh, moisturized, and bright.

3) Brows are so important in a look like this, because with bright lips, people tend to under-define the eyes! To keep the eyes in balance, fill in your eyebrows and slightly accentuate your arch. I’m using a super thin-point and firm pencil by Anastasia that makes filling in brows foolproof.

4) For a simple yet defined eye look, I used the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette. Using the shade Suspect, apply this from your lash line to your crease, blending it on the way up. As demonstrated in the photo, to create a 3 dimensional highlighted effect, I applied Bootycall on the center of my lid directly above my pupil and iris. Doing this will create the illusion of bigger, brighter eyes. Blend these two shadows together, then blend YDK into the crease to further define the eye.

5) Blend YDK under the lash line to create a smoky effect. I used a pointed fluffy brush to create a diffused yet precise effect.

6) To line the eyes, use Benefit Eye Bright in the inner corner and inner third of the waterline, then line the rest of your waterline with your favorite dark brown eyeliner. Try to stay away from black eyeliner for this look. We want the look to remain bright and for the eyeshadow on your lash line to blend seamlessly into the color on the waterline.

7) My favorite part of every eye look- mascara! Apply two coats of your favorite.

8) Finish your face with your favorite bronzer and blush. I typically apply my bronzer in the “e and 3” method (I can explain this further if you’d like!) and apply my blush onto the direct high points of my cheekbones. (No photo for this one, sorry Liv ūüė¶ )

9) Now for the main event! Apply Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Unapologetic to your lips, starting at the middle and working your way to the corners of your lips. This stuff stays feels like a dream and stays on like nobody’s business! One trick I’ve learned to make this balm last all night (literally‚Ķ even after eating) is to really press it into your lips with your finger after application.

10) You’re finished!! Enjoy your bold, fuss-free look that works for both day and night. Bring your balm with you in case you do need to re-apply!

Love,
Margarita
